" Microsoft Ceasing to Support XP!"
Don't worry! With the huge sales of netbooks supplied with XP, I don't think they can afford to ignore all these current and new customers. Microsoft's recent press release states that if you have your XP operating system up to date with Service Pack 3, you have nothing to worry about.
In Microsoft's press release it states that Windows 2000 and XP will still be supported as long as they are kept up-to-date. The only problem being that having Automatic Update switched on, it can use upto 50% of the processors power! We would advise that keep your Automatic Update switched off but manually check for updates once a week or once a fortnight as Microsoft don't issue daily updates for Windows 2000 and XP, so there is no need to have Automatic Updates permanently switched on.
Support is ending for some versions of Windows
•Support for Windows Vista without any service packs ended on April 13, 2010.
•Support for Windows XP with Service Pack 2 (SP2) will end on July 13, 2010.*
* Note: There's no SP3 for the 64-bit version of Windows XP. If you’re running the 64-bit version of Windows XP with SP2, you have the latest service pack and will continue to be eligible for support and receive updates until April 8, 2014.
